bundled junk

Assuming that I can actually install Limewire. (see previous post) is there a way to avoid installing all the bundled crapola that comes with it?

Taliban April 12th, 2002 11:40 AM

Get the LimeWire zip archive at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_other

Unpack it into your favourit directory and start the batch-script.

what?

what's the batch script? Is there a way NOT to download all the add ons?

Taliban April 12th, 2002 12:17 PM

a batch-script is a ".bat" file. The .zip does not contain any bundled software except for the Cydoor library which is used to show LimeWires banner ads on Windows systems.

?????

I know I must sound stupid, but what does that have to do with not downloading the add ons? And how do you do what you said?

Taliban April 12th, 2002 01:35 PM

The bundled software is included in the installer, but not in:
http://www9.limewire.com:82/download...ireWinNoVM.zip

That's the file you can download at http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_other .

Simply unpack it and double click on the limewire.bat file.

Thanks

Your advice seems to have worked. Not only did I avoid the extra bundled software, but I was able to install Limewire with out error message 1628. ....I still do get a message when I launch Limewire that there was an error with installation, but it should run anyway. And it does. So thanks for your help!

You might want to try this. Uninstall Limewire completely. Then go to www.limewire.com and download the new 2.4.2 version. After it installs, just delete the addons that you don't want. I did this right from my desktop. The new version is a vast improvement over 2.3. I'm actually considering buying the pro version. The installation is simple compared to the older versions and Java hides itself when you open Limewire instead of the way it used to come up first.....Kudos to the developers. A MUCH better program!....My only concern is that I still can't resume the incomplete downloads. .....Maybe the next version?
