Win2K Installation/Error 1608 - Rec'd Workarounds Don't Work Apparently, like many others trying to install LimeWire 2.3 on a Windows 2000 Pro box, I have had difficulty with both the installation and the solutions recommended by LimeWire (recong of Dcomcnfg.exe) and this forum (1-27-2002 post recommending remote installation of two discrete files). Before a recent Windows 2000 rebuild, I had installed LimeWire without issue---perhaps an earlier version, but not any earlier than what was available in Feb/Mar. Are there any LimeWire developers/staff monitoring this list who have noticed the number of Win2K users who have tried these workarounds to no avail? Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks! try the following: -uninstall all versions of LimeWire and Java -reboot your computer -download the JRE from Sun's site: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download-windows.html -reboot computer -go back to the download page and get the alternate Windows installer - install that version. zbell :D |
