Default Uninstall Limewire(Windows XP)

I HAD WINDOWS ME AND UPGRADED TO WINDOWS XP AND CAN'T REMOVE LIMEWIRE IN THE ADD/REMOVE SECTION OF THE CONTROL PANEL. A LITTLE HELP HERE PLEASE. I CERTAINLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I INSTALLED LIMEWIRE 2.98.
LIMEWIRE IS IN MY ADD/REMOVE SECTION OF THE CONTROL PANEL. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT, AN INSTALL SHIELD WIZARD APPEARS WITH THE FOLLOWING CHOICES,MODIFY,REPAIR,OR REMOVE. I CLICK ON REMOVE AND A WINDOW APPEARS THAT READS "DO YOU WANT TO COMPLETELY REMOVE SELECTED APPLICATIONS AND ALL OF ITS FEATURES". I CLICK OK, AND A WINDOW COMES UP THAT SAYS MAINTENANCE COMPLETE. I GO TO ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS IN THE CONTROL PANEL AND ITS STILL THERE. TRIED TO REBOOT THINKING I HAD TO FOR IT TO TAKE EFFECT, HAHA NO SUCH LUCK. IT IS STILL THERE.

Install Limewire again - right on top of the existing version. Then it should appear in your XP add/remove programs window. You can uninstall it as normal.

Good luck,

Angry Same Problem

I have the same problem. I have not used Limewire for over a year. I uninstalled it using the Add/Remove Software control panel in XP Home, but it still shows up. Even the directory is still there in the Program Files directory. I have tried re-installing it and then removing it several times. Manually deleting the directory. I have pretty much given up. It must still be in the registry.

Registry entries are left by most programs. Many also leave a directory that may be completely or nearly completely empty. If you uninstalled from the add/remove in XP and then deleted the directory manually you have done about all you can.

If you want to get serious you can use a program like Registry First Aid to remove all traces of a progran including broken shortcuts and start menu entries.
