Error reading setup initialization file (4.2.5 only)

3.9.4 thru 4.2.4 installs fine, 4.2.5 gives me a titleless window without text on the OK button that says Error reading setup initialization file.
I've uninstalled LW, deleted the $Prog\Limewire dir, run a registry scan, double-checked in the Windows Installer Clean-up Utility, rebooted over & over.....
I looked at another link about this, and it linked to some greek about the msi package... I'm hoping for a solution in english.
...Already got a support e-mail to Pro sales, maybe someone here has beat this one already tho.

thanks

specs:
xp home sp2
512 ram
1.5g celly
(xtra healthy system)

Update your Installshield install engines. Chances are this is the problem: update your installshield install engine. I hope this is not the link you were refering to. But scroll down to the bottom of the page & choose XP.

Thanks, but that didn't do it... My driver folder has 7, 8 & 9 in it, so I updated all of them after 7 didn't do it...

So what was the error number you received anyway? Knowing that may help to narrow down the causes & solutions. So I presume you have up to date Java? (dare I ask a silly question.)

So which driver is it you're using to install LW. Are you sure the right one is active whilst you're installing LW.

ver 4.2.5 failed but 4.2.6 worked

Good news, I was successful in installing 4.2.6 on my system. Seems everything is working great now...

Glad to hear it jibaro.

For the next release, we're likely going to be using a whole new installer, built from NSIS (Nullsoft's Scriptable Install System). We've managed to get a working version of it in the office, and it'd be good to test it in increments. (We're probably going to build network-retrieval of files into the installer -- that is, the installer itself would be tiny, and it would retrieve the files for installation from Gnutella itself, doing all the necessary validation of course.)

sberlin may I ask why use an installer for Mac OSX? I'm not sure what arguments there are for using an installer. Why not just offer a dmg file so people can mount it, drag & drop LW to wherever they choose? The present installer version installs it in the Applications folder (without a choice.) But not everybody wants it to be there; perhaps either in a sub-folder or even on another HDD or partition.

The OSX installer actually does some work.

Installing to another directory or partition is another matter -- we could make that option available in the installer. To date, we've chosen not to because it increases the complexity somewhat, and the Applications folder is standard for OSX.
