To whomever reads this--I have not ever used a system like this before so I really am quite ignorant as to how to do this correctly. I have been trying to install 4.2.5 and am totally unsuccessful. I keep getting an 'error 1714' which says that the older version of Limewire cannot be removed. After that, I get an 'error 1603' which is described as a 'fatal error'. I read some of these notes that have been posted and have already updated 'JRE' but that has not been beneficial. I hope that I have not done something stupid to cause this difficulty myself and would love to find out how to fix it. By the way, I use Windows 98SE if that is of any help. I am sure that there is someone out there who is much more knowledgable who can help me fix this. Many thanks.

There is a reference to, error 1714, that you are getting, the answer to your error will probably be in one of the linked web pages.

I got the same error yesterday. I uninstalled the previous version and it just installed fine. If it doesn't work, download the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility from here and remove Limewire from the list. Then try again.

To those people who responded to my post, thank you. The windows cleanup utility was easy to obtain, install and seems to have easily fixed the problem.
