Default limewire woes

sorry for posting this here, i'm not sure where to start a thread, and my problem is 2-fold.

first, i've been using limewire for nearly a year..when i initially installed it, i went with limewire pro, and i loved it a lot...recently, when i got the message to upgrade, i gave it a shot, and i received a message that the transaction didn't go through due to incorrect billing info/insufficient funds, etc..so i checked my bank account online, and limewire HAD debited my account. I went back to limewire.com and tried to submit my e-mail address for my download page, but it said that my e-mail address is not in the system. so i've paid for limewire pro, yet i can't use it :-(

also, for some reason whenever i use limewire, i lose my internet connection for my browser/instant messengers. what can i do to stop this from happening? (or can you please advise me where i should direct that question?)

thank you!

It can take up to or around 24 hours before you receive an email from lw's customer support with a link to your personal downld page.

Has this connection problem been happening ever since you started using it?
Can you give us a total desciption of your set up: 1. Operating System version (eg: win 98/xp), 2. What firewalls you have, 3. ram, 4. HDD space available, 5. Connection type, 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers, 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

Make sure you update your Java: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...radejava.shtml

i've had this connection problem for about 3 months

1.) windows xp
2.) zonealarm (and some spyware protection, spyguard, adaware, spybot)
3.) total memory: 256mb, available 23.19mb
4.) 10.5 gb available
5.) dsl
6.) speedstream 5100
7.) home

i hope i've provided everything you need..i had to have some help..i'm pc illiterate :-)

also, it's been 48 hours since i contacted limewire regarding my account being debited, and i have yet to get a response

i did update the java (thank you!!), and it seems like it might have helped..usually my browser goes down within 10 minutes of loading limewire..and it lasted a few hours yesterday..

Indeed you have firewalls galore. Not that that's a bad thing but you will need to configure them to allow both LW & Java full access. You need to follow the instructions very carefully.

1. Instructions for XP Firewall: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml &
2. directly below that you will find instructions for Zonealarm firewall.

3. Your modem also has an internal NAT firewall. You will need to forward a port (open a port to allow LW full access. Use Port 6346 Port Forwarding intructions for the Efficient(Siemens) Speedstream 5100 Router & 1st you will need to set up a static ip or it won't work properly. You will see a link to setting up a static ip on the 1st line. Do that, then do the port forwarding.

4. Last of all Force ip within LW: Force IP instructions & sample image

Tell us how it goes. It's not as difficult as what you may think. Just follow the instructions very carefully. Good luck!

yikes! i'm stuck on step 3..when i enter my modem's router number, it takes me to my connection information page..i never get prompted for a username/password (where would i find the username and password??), and i'm not sure what to do to get to the spot that's shown on the screen for setting up a static ip :-\

You might have it set to auto-login. If you notice there's an option to save the password, so next time (like this time) you go into your modem's page you automatically login. So don't worry about the password.

i still must be doing something wrong..my main menu (at least, what i think is my main menu), doesn't look anything like the menu shown in the example, and there is no option for "set up", so i'm not sure how to proceed. i have attached a screen shot of what i reckon to be the main menu, so you might be able to tell me if i'm in the wrong place..

It's not unusual for the images not to be totally identical b/c modem companies are often upgrading their software.

They have re-arranged things though haven't they. Try pressing the Advanced button & see what options there are there. Port forwarding is generally an advanced feature.
