OO man, I have the same problem. If someone tells you can u tell me? |
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP! !! PLEASE:) |
me too. always freezes at `extract:unpack200.exe`step, after a `finishing installation` window shows up |
Hi Folks, If you could go to the folder C:\Program Files\LimeWire, can you list what files exist there? Also, do you see any activity when the installation freezes, or does it just outright freeze? |
it just freezes no progess wat so ever |
Da'fix OK here is the fix: Open the C:\Program Files\LimeWire folder and then open “LimeWire Executable Jar File 5,0879 KB” that will then open LimeWire and finish the instillation and allow you to use LimeWire. |

I dont see the file “LimeWire Executable Jar File 5,0879 KB” |
If everyone having this problem could please reply here with _exactly_ which files are in C:\Program Files\LimeWire, it will help us very much in solving this problem. Thanks. |

Thanks, passerby. You also had the problem where installation failed to complete (at the point where it said "Finishing Installation")? |
PROBLEMS http://www9.limewire.com/download/in...imeWireWin.exe it is allot bigger file about 15 megs but it works although its only basic I have been in contact with a limewire support person that doesn't seem to get it and really has pissed me off seems like he or she (can't tell by them name) can't understand good old english I told the person 2 times that i was a registered user of pro and I keep getting told that basic is free and ezmp3s is scamming me to pay for basic and all kinds of other stuff I hate software that has no phone support a few minute call can solve a problem that takes endless emails How hard is it to understand that when your software gets to "unpack200.exe it stops installing" |
rptererk, We're looking into the problem with the installer freezing when it says "Finishing Installation". If you could please email me at sberlin@limepeer.com , I will let you know when we have an installer that may not experience the problem you're seeing. |
yes. stops at `extract: unpack200.exe`,after ` finishing installation`window comes up |
We've put out a new version that should hopefully fix this problem. Please download the latest version of LimeWire (it should be 4.4.1) and let us know what happens. Thanks. |
hello, just tried to install lw for the 5th time, version 4.4.1, i 've got the same problem going on |
Just a simple word: when did you last do a system check over with your system utilities & defragment your HDD, & clean up your registry. ;) It's never a bad time to do it if it hasn't been done in a while or you're having problems. ;) |
defrag was this weekend, but i went ahead and checked my HDDs again, everythings fine there. registry was cleaned yesterday :) |
Alright, thanks for letting us know. We'll look into other ways of fixing this... |
Wheww Thank gawd i'm not the only one with dis issue...I coulda resorted ta goin with another file share program but I love LW and will wait for a solution...Which I hope is very soon!!:( |
Ok Mr. Programmer, I have found a qucik fix to this problem upon freezing upon fianlizing the install of the pro version. Upon installation it freezes at the unpack 2000.exe or just stops at finalization try this. Leave the program where it freezes at with the 2 boxes up telling you it is finalizing. Now hit control + alt + delete and bring up the task manager. Now very carefully locate all instances of any temp files being listed one by one and end process on those .... these are temp files that are being created each time the process is ended on each one. Now note everytime you end process on each one of the temp files the meter on the install process box goes up .... keep doing this process until the installation is complete. NOTE: The temp files I am speaking of have numbers in front of the temp file EXAMPLE: ns41.temp, ns.temp of any kind or any temp file. Seems as though the program for some reason is creating these temp files and this is jamming it or stalling it. Hope this helps everyone with this. Oh and before I found this out I downloaded the version 4.4.1 GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! Oh and for the price of this fix I am adding a signature link to this forum and respect that it be left here in tact. We've released a new version, LimeWire 4.4.2 that should fix this. (I know I said that last time, but this time I really mean it.) The download pages still say 4.2.6, but you'll get 4.4.2 when you download. If you could please confirm for us that this build works, we'd appreciate it. Thanks. (And special thanks to Rick for isolating the problem and coming up with a workaround.) |
Nope, just tried this new fixed version and it still don't work, still freezes fer me atleast...Anyone elsde?....I did however try the link that "rpeterk" posted, and the damn thing works....Wasn't no 15mbs though....Same 2.somethin...I dunno what to make of this...How can anyone release software without it being properly and fully tested?.....Even this new "Beta" version frreezes up on me!! |
Try deleting the LW preferences folder 'before' you re-install LW (that's if there is one.) Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents" Also a reboot might be a painful but possibly helpful thing also. |
And that quik fix rtp came up with don't work either... |
Evidently you have not done it correctly .....also the new version does work. 4.4.2 |
IROQ -- You seem to be the only person who's still having the problem with this new release. Everyone else who's contacted me (a good number of people) have said the new version works. I suspect something is wrong on your end -- perhaps you didn't actually download the newer version, or launched the older one. Nonetheless, we've released another version, LimeWire 4.4.3 that contains another layer of failover, such that if it detects LimeWire is stalling on this stage, it will stop and download the already-unpacked files instead of unpacking them itself. Thanks. |

I was forced to use the restart button. This is the same result with any installation of LimeWire I have tried. I am using Windows98se and LimeWire folder shows in my program files also J2SE runtimeEnvironment 5.0update1 shows in the Add/Delete program files. I can get the program to run by clicking on LimeWire Executable Jar File but it does not install. the program appears to be fully functional but after closing I can only reaccess thru the Jar file. Is there a possible conflict with other programs such as Zone Alarm or Giant Antispyware etc. if so is there a work around.? Finally since the program doesn't show in the Add/Delete program files I tried to manually uninstall version 4.4.1 and then attempt to reinstall -this did nodt work either. Have you any other suggestions as I would like to try out LimeWire because of recommendations from other users. |
Dlddemon, For the cases where the default installer fails, we have provided a generic installer that works on almost all operating systems. You can download it here: http://www.limewire.com/LimeWireSoftOther It is a .zip file which you should unzip in a folder of your choosing. After you unzip it, there will be a LimeWire.exe file in that folder which you can double-click to start Limewire. Btw make sure the Java Runtime Environment is still installed on your computer (it should show in add/remove programs). Let us know how that works. |
As zab mentioned, you can use that zip file to begin using LimeWire immediately. To help us fix the Windows problem for the future, though, at which point did the installer freeze? Does it always freeze if you rerun it multiple times? |
Ok, I just tried the link that zab posted and it worked...However, I tried that 4.3.3 and that did NOT work, it froze again...And my Java runtime is installed with the latest version and working fine...I have XP Home and NEVER had this issue with Limewire before, so why does it have to be an issue with OUR machines? |
Also, with that link that zab posted, what version of LW is that? |
Me again.....LOL....LW is not showing in my add/remove, what now?? |
The alternative installer does not show up in add/remove. If you want to uninstall LimeWire you can just delete the folder you unzipped it in. That installer will always be the same version as the original installer - we provide it as backup. |
IROQ -- It would be very helpful if you could tell us where the installer froze instead of just the fact that it froze. What was it showing, exactly, when it stopped working? Did it freeze your entire computer, or were you able to exit it? |
sberlin, it froze at the same point each and every time "unpack200.exe" |
WTF, its showin my file version as 1.0.0.2????....This is friggin rediculous...I shouldn't have ta go downloadin or reconfiguring all kinda crap just to get this application ta work...I've deleted every file in my LW folder to...But when I do a search, I still get a few files showin that I can not delete fer some reason.... |
Can you please double-check this, IROQ, as well as double-checking which version of LimeWire you are installing (it will say at the top of the installer)? You should be installing LimeWire 4.4.3. If the current installer were to freeze, it would not freeze during "unpack200.exe". We can potentially fix this if we have all the details, something we are lacking right now. |
Ok, i'm man enough to say I stand corrected....Just tried installing 4.4.3 and this time it worked...Thanks for all yer help... |
Thanks for letting us know it worked, IROQ. :) |
:D |

The "LimeWireOther" zip file got the program to open in version 4.4.3 , it put an icon in the taskbar but it did not install an icon on the desk top nor add the program to the Add/Remove program folder. Then if I wanted to exit the program for any reason, I would have to reinstall by using the .exe in the zip file Basically it does the same as opening the LimeWireExecutable Jar File found in the C:\Program Files\LimeWire, folder. This folder always gets installed even though the program instalation hangs before completing and my computer has to be restarted. The install execute always stops at:-"C:\ProgramFiles\LimeWire\execNoWindow.exe""C:\Pro gramFiles\LimeWire\unpack200.exe" -r "C:\ProgramFiles\LimeWire\id3v2pack" "C:\ProgramFiles\LimeWire...This is as far as I could go. I hope this will help to resolve the install problem. I am able to use LimeWire as it is but would like to have it without the above quirks would appreciate your feedback |
Thanks for keeping in touch about what's going on, Dlddemon. What version of Windows are you using, and how much RAM do you have on the computer? For what it's worth (even though I doubt you'll like this answer), the LimeWire PRO Windows version does not do the 'unpacking' that causes the problems you're experiencing. So, if you'd like to purchase LimeWire PRO, you're guaranteed to have a smoother install. That said, we don't expect people to purchase PRO just to be able to use LimeWire easier, so we are still going to try and figure out what's going wrong with this installation. (We have to use the unpacking for the Free version because more people use free, and we have to lower the bandwidth by reducing the size of the installer.) |
Hello sberlin, I would like to give LimeWire a full trial before I commit myself to the Pro version. I have just started using an ADSL connection so am exploring the different P2P software out there and have had LimeWire recommended. I am using Windows98se with 192 sdram. As this is a Java program are there any Windows downloads I should be using, that may not be installed on my computer to help make LimeWire install easier? (ie apart from the J2SE runtime executable) Was any of the info I passed on useful? |
Yup, the info's very useful. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much we can do, short of providing the 'Other' download (the zip file). It won't install LimeWire into add/remove programs, but that isn't too large a deal, because you can uninstall it by deleting the LimeWire folder. You can create a shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on LimeWire.exe and choosing 'Create Shortcut' and then dragging that to your desktop. |
Thanks usiong the shortcut will help for now. I'll keep an eye out on the forum in case a solution is found... |
Diddemon: Glad to see you got LimeWire working. One possible reason about the problems you were having could have been memory corruption. Could you run a RAM test sometime at your convenience? There is a free tool available at http://www.memtest86.com This problem is very rare (less than one in several thousand people experience it) so we're kind of shooting in the dark for possible causes. Thanks. |
Diddemon: Yer gonna love LW with DSL!...I have Verizon DSL and its great fer file sharing...The new 4.4.3 is now workin fine for me, after countless attempts to correct the freeze up issue...Ya have to delete any traces of LW still left on yer PC from previous versions, doin that worked for me...Good luck! |
Update cost sberlin: I see that purchasing LW Pro will give me "free updates" for 6 months...Whats the cost after that? |
