Default Close program before installing?

Hi,

I'm new to Limewire, and I just tried installing it this evening. Although, when I was in the process, I got an error msg saying that I have an older version running in the background, and to close it. Yet, I've never had Limewire before. And I did as it said--to check my system tray, and there's nothing there. Also, I tried ctrl+alt+del to see if maybe it was running in the background somewhere on my computer, but nothing. I don't understand why else I would be getting this msg. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
-Jenndrick

Thanks for letting us know about this. What version of Windows are you guys using? In Task Manager, if you click on the 'Processes' tab, do you see anything called 'LimeWire.exe'? There might be some programs out there using our name...

I'm using Windows XP, and I already checked under the processes tab for the program, and couldn't find anything.

I had the same issue. I re-started (rebooted) windows so all possible activities regarding LW were deactivated/killed - be that java or whatever. Oh & I also removed any folders belonging to LW out of the tray. After the restart everything was fine during the installation. I'd recommend downlding the installer & not installing over the net.

Actually I had another small side issue but it was the same principle & same fix.

Instead try the LW beta. There's not a lot of difference: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml But, it might solve your issue.
