Unhappy Corrupt installation?

I'd been using limewire for a while until last week when it refused to start up. I got a box saying that Limewire had encountered a fatal internal error and would exit. I have tried to read around for ideas on how to fix this problem and I have tried the suggestion on http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=32552
But nothing seem to work. The grey box that keeps coming up gives me an option of Send, Review or Discard. They suggested I send the information (viewable in Review) to the limewire bug email address, which I have done but have not yet received a reply for.

Can anyone here please help me? I really liked Limewire and am reluctant to have to use something else! Below is the information:

LimeWire version 4.8.1
Java version 1.5.0_02 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86
Free/total memory: 310824/5873664

I would suggest to uninstall both the Java & LW. Uninstall Java using the Add/Remove prog control panel. Uninstall LW by going to Start menu>Programs>LW>Uninstaller. Then downld the installers & save them to your comp. Don't install over the net. Then install Java. Then install LW & reboot. If still problems then remove Java 1.5 & go back to version 1.4.2 (link to it in the link you supplied above.)

Oh before you do all this, try opening LW once more & then press Control-Alt-Delete keys & open Process Manager & see how many times limewire is listed. If it's listed more than once then kill all of these LW processes. Then search your comp for other versions of LW.

Thanks for the advice but it still doesn't seem to work

I just don't understand...it was working fine and then one day it just refused to open. I find this even more odd since each time I browse the forums there seem to be more and more people experiencing the same problems.

I wonder what it could be..

Uninstall LW by going to Start menu>Programs>LW>Uninstaller Then re-install LW by re-downlding the program & saving it to your computer (don't install over the net.) Then install. Likewise for the Java, it is much better & safer to install from your comp than over the net. So also save the Java installer to your computer after uninstalling Java (using Add/Remove control panel), & then reinstall. See: Fixes for Limewire ANnd get LW here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

What display adapter are you using?

Have you updated the drivers lately or made any display changes recently.

So as I suggested earlier, you tried uninstalling Java 1.5 & going back to Java 1.4.2 (link above)? If so then outta ideas.

Are there any updates or new installations you did that might have affected LW? Sounds like something might be clashing perhaps.

Ok this is extremely weird... but I just thought I'd keep you updated.

Since my last post in this thread I had given up and decided to quit installing, uninstalling, reinstalling over and over again. So let's see..that was about 5 days ago? Yes I experienced withdrawal symptoms :P Don't worry I'm slowly getting to the point here.

Anyway, 5 minutes ago I decided to give the installation another go, being hopeful.

You know what? It's working perfectly.

Unfortunately Squirtukuk I don't have any advice to give you as I didn't change anything about my computer.

I just hope this never happens again. I'll never take Limewire for granted again

Thanks to those who tried to help

Greetings snackinabox

Glad you got things working again

Hi Squirtukuk

It looks as though you have a firewall blocking your connection.

Check your firewall settings. Make sure you are allowing LW full access TCP and UDP.

Who is your Internet Service Provider, they may also be blocking/filtering p2p programs.

What is your Modem type and model and router type and model no.
Some have NAT firewalls.
