Default L/W very slow opening

I have read the message:

<<Here's some points for helping to fix LW if it's not working properly>>

Would this apply to my problem as follows?
I use WINDOWS ME and NO Firewall. It takes 16 minutes for L/W to open and settle down from clicking on the Icon to being able to start using the program.
Even then, clicking on any tab or button takes minutes to work. Whilst L/W is open my PC goes down to a dead crawl. Even closing L/W takes ages.
I have read the message quoted and it seems very complicated. I'm scared of mucking up my PC. Please advise.
Alan.

Default How much RAM?

Hi there!

LimeWire is Java-based so I should have at LEAST 64mb, better 128mb of ram.

Default L/W is slow

I have 64 RAM at the moment but have decided on a RAM expansion to 128, hopefully next week. I 'll let you know if there is any improvement then. Thanks.

Default Hmm...

Well, that explains your slowness, beside that WinME is a REALLY ugly OS!

However, you could do some tweaks to maybe make it faster:
Assign a fix swap-space (200-300mb), close as much apps as possible (also driver-manufacturer's stuff like atipanel, managers, accerlators(!!), and so on).
Press Strg+Alt+Esc and kill everything thats not really needed.

I also would use the latest java-1.4.2 and not 1.5 since its smaller in RAM...

good luck, lg Clemens

Default Ref: very slow opening.

Hi Clemens. Just thought I'd let you know that I got a memory upgrade from 64 to 256. Wow what a difference. Everything is turbo now.
By the way, I have a VHS with a Jarre concert on it and I'd like to load the sound track into my ol' puter.
Where can I get advice on the procedure?
Alan.
