Okay here's a list I hope of all the pertinent information.
OS - Windows ME
CPU - Intel Celeron X86 633 mhz
Memory - 512MB
Video - on board
Connection - Cable/DSL
Limewire - version 4.9.23
Java - version 1.4.2 & 1.5.? (I've tried both)
Router - Linksys broadband 802.11b 2.4ghz
Firewall - Charter hi speed security suite
Antivirus - Charter hi speed security suite & Adaware se
new to limewire but experienced in file p2p (have used other programs in the past).
description of problem - - trying to install limewire. but install locks up. after the box that asks to allow limewire past the firewall and access the internet, the box appears that says "Please wait . . . if there is no progress for several minutes, please restart the installer" and underneath "beginning download". I have to ctrl-alt-dlt and end task where it says limewire installer not responding. Have tried to uninstall & reinstall both versions of java.

Again thanks for all your time trying to help me.

To Zab,
Thank you for the link for the full install. It took right off and I was up and running within 5 minutes.
To Gandpa,
Thank you for your patience and persistence in trying to find a solution for me.
Now if I can just find the files I want :D

just alittle note to grandpa, the installer has changed. the first pre-installer doesnt require java. its just a little stub installer that downloads the real installer from the network then runs it. the second post-installer is what actually does all the work. untill someone gets to that stage of installation, all of your previous helpfull guides are rather useless.

although i would have thought the same if i didnt know that either.

but good work on trying to help. atleast you have the patience unlike me ;)

the only help that i would have been able to give with this problem is to disable all firewall software including but not limited to winXP SP2 firewall.

that may have been the problem here. but the installer is pretty new so it may have some unnoticed bugs still awaiting to be found. but sofar i have had complete success with it. great download speed too. maybe a sticky should be posted about this problem with a link to the offline installer?

It doesn't work for me even the full version(offline installer)Others solution???

Grandpa August 31st, 2005 07:15 PM

Try turning off all you firewalls if that doesn't work I don't know. You could try uninstalling LimeWire and edit your registry delete all references to LW in your registry and all files and folders in your C drive. Then try re installing and I do not know that this would work either. If you do not know your way around in your registry don't even attempt it. You can really mess up your computer if you do not know what you are doing.
