Go to add/remove programs & remove your current Java version. Now install Java (JRE) using the offline installer here
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Once Java's installed, reinstall LW using it's offline installer
http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

See if that fixes things:)

Installation Problem - Limewire Basic 4.12.6

SEP 3, 2006 (2:00PM EST)

Upon trying to install the latest version of limewire (4.12.6)
I get the Error Message seen in uppercase letters below.
(I have Windows XP.)

AN OLDER VERSION OF LIMEWIRE APPEARS TO BE RUNNING.
YOU MUST EXIT THE OLD VERSION BEFORE CONTINUING WITH INSTALLATION.
ONCE YOU HAVE EXITED LIMEWIRE, CLICK RETRY.

NOTE THAT LIMEWIRE MAY BE RUNNING IN YOUR SYSTEM TRAY.
TO EXIT, RIGHT-CLICK ON THE LIMEWIRE ICON AND CHOOSE EXIT.)

ABORT / RETRY / IGNORE

Then, clicking either one of the three options results in a failed download.

I do not have Limewire running and there is no desktop icon for Limewire.
(I did have an older version of Limewire, but the attepmted current download killed it. I looked in the 'Add/Remove Programs' folder and Limewire is not present there. I am assuming it was uninstalled or surpressed in some way.)

I also tried WINDOWS, WINDOWS OFFLINE INSTALLER and the link
provided by Zak (Moderator): ttp://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

Any advice?

Try rebooting

Psoles September 4th, 2006 09:01 AM

Thanx Grandpa. (LimeWire should clarify.)

Grandpa,
Thanx for the suggestion to reboot though it didn't work.
Apparently, many users are having this same currently non-solvable problem.

I'm suspecting a hacker corruptes LimeWire's site and that
we're all downloading the corrupt files.

Or LimeWire was corrupted on it's own.

JRE problem again!

Grandpa,

I tried your directions for editing the registry for this seemingly very common and aggravating problem - apparently when logged in with Admin rights I have insufficient privleges to modify the Limewire and Magnet keys under Local Machine, so I can't delete them.

LW tries to install JRE update 3 (using the offline installer), and I've already installed JRE u8 (using the JRE offline installer).

I've deleted my user account (I have another with admin rights) and recreated it to no result and have tried all these steps when logged in under the only other admin account. I only have the two accounts.

Help!!

I'm trying to install Limewire on my wife's computer. I gets to the "loading Java" part & stays there.
I've uninstalled Java & the old LW. Then reinstalled Java from the offline installer as mentioned earlier. I then tried to install LW from the off line install links mentioned above, but the same issue w/ the "loading Java" thing.
I even went to the regedit & removed Java. One question with that though, should I have removed "Java soft" also? That I did not do.
Any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated. My wife is now trying to monopolize my computer, which runs LW no problem.
Thanks in advance!
Ron

I'd remove all your Java versions & reinstall the latest. Also, try changing LW's compatibility mode to win 2000 or NT. Also delete the LW preferences (I don't know if you'll have any but if you do they're most likely corrupt.) Fixes for Limewire

If still problems after that, then ignore the installer & get this 'Other' version: Unzip it & use

JRE help still needed

Hi again,

I am still struggling with this persistent problem. I have managed to remove the JavaSoft and Limewire keys from Local Machine but cannot remove Magnet because I do not (as Administrator) have rights to access the Handler subkey.

I thought Administrators had God-like power over a system!! Why can I not delete this key? Why is it holding me up in any case?
