Windows registry issues

I used to be a Macman back in the Classic days, pre Win 95, and then got cheap and went Intel. Now everything's changed in both camps around ease of use, software compatibility, etc., but one thing remains the same:

Windows sucks!!

Have a great day,

Bill

Just thought I'd update all those who tried to help with my issue - i.e. the Magent registry key that couldn't be deleted. My PC is a CISNet PC bought at Staples. Hardware is great, all industry standard leading stuff, dual core Athlon, MSI mobo etc. However, rather than ship their PCs with Windows media kits, they create an invisible system recovery partition on the hard drive which installs Windows for you. It seems that due to some latency between my too fast CPU and the too slow IDE hard drive, the registry was getting corrupted whenever I did a system recovery, and apparently was corrupted when I opened the box after getting it home from the store. You'd think their installer would be intelligent enough to manage the hardware they are selling, but no.

Anyway, after doing a system recovery, I was able to install Limewire, but my wireless drivers stopped working. Did another system recovery, and something else broke.

Why can't companies just ship a Windows CD???

Anyway, thanks all, we now have an answer to this question in case someone else stumbles across the same problem.

limewire not working

ok so i've had limewire for a while... and every once in a while, i try to open limewire to do some downloading and a message comes up saying "limewire was unable to load, please download and install again." and so i downloaded it again and usually it works... but this time it's not working at all... i tried using the backup downloading program too... but it still didn't work... and so i tried completely uninstalling the program and starting over from scratch but it STILL isn't working... can any one help me? i don't wanna have to pay for this thing to get it to work... :bangh:

I don't know if I'm in the right place but can anyone help I downloaded Limwire with no problems and enjoyed using it (for the two days I got to use it) I was very proud that I downloaded it myself being a computer idiot! anyway my husband deleted the desktop icons and I don't know what else. I did a search for limewire and found the rest of the files and tried to open it from there, no luck. Went to add/remove programs - nothing their either and nothing under "programs" either. I deleted what i could and tried to start again and it keeps saying i'm running it in my systems tray (where is that?) it proceeds to tell me to right click on the icon and click "exit" *sigh* I don't get the option to exit! So now I can't run limewire and can't un-install it and can't download! Any ideas?? Remember i'm not computer literate. It took me 20 mins just to figure out how to work this thread thing!

Maybe i'm missing something really really dumb but... sorry this is killing me.

I went to use the old version of Limewire and got a message that the program/file was corrupt and to reinstall the software.
So I did and received the same message as the one quoted above.
I read all the posts in this thread and I have tried several of the suggestions but nothing has worked.
I deleted and reinstalled Java and Limewire as suggested previously but still no luck, just the darn message.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you're not getting the corrupted installation message anymore but you're getting the 'save folder not valid' message?

Try deleting LW's preferences folder. Just make sure that LW's properly closed first. See points 2 & 3 in the thread below
Fixes for LimeWire

Thanks Birdy I will give it a try.
The corrupt message came up as I went to use the previous version that I had been using for some time. Additionally the message directed me to reinstall Limewire.
After I installed the newer version I received the "save folder is not valid or may have been deleted..." as well as a "fatal error/corrupt installation" message.

If you were using quite an old version before, just check the location of your preferences folder...you could have an older .limewire folder or the newer one within Application Data, check for both.

2. Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed! & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR
/your_username/.limewire OR

Thanks Birdy :Smilywais: I revisited the thread link you provided and deleted the Limewire preferences folder in the C:/Documents And Settings file as instructed.
That did the trick. :yahoo:
My mistake was that I assumed (we all know what they say about assuming) that since I had uninstalled the previous Limewire installations that everything was gone. W R O N G! :nono:

Birdy, thank you again. Your assistence and direction is greatly appreciated.

You're welcome:D
Enjoy LW!
