windows xp , downloading limewire basic stops shortly into download and says cannot write to Crogram\limewire\limewire.exe. if I ignore it finishes downloading but wont open

Do you have much free space left on your HDD?

Try updating your Java (or reinstalling, if you already have the latest update): Java Downloads for All Operating Systems - Sun Microsystems

Download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions (via Control Panel) before installing this one. Restart your computer after installing the new Java.

See whether LW will open after that.

You can also try installing to a different destination such as different partition ... else create a new folder within programs folder & install within there.
