Default LimeWire 5.2.13 disappears after two seconds and won't run

Help please!!! I have read all the posts regarding this however I need simple instructions, I have uninstalled Java and Limewire, reinstalled latest Java and then reinstalled LW again. No luck. It loads then when the opening page comes on to continue, it disappears. I am SO frustrated b/c I have always used LW on this computer (Windows XP). I have ran my Avast and had some malware, etc and that took two hours, so should be good. I restarted computer and still does the same thing! Has this happened to anyone and what else can I try??
Also, in my Add/Remove programs the Java update only shows, nothing called RunTime Environment, does this matter? If I need RTE, where do I find that? Can't figure this out and it seems you need to be an IT to understand some of these instructions.............so frustrated.................
My firewall is on, but LW is listed as an exception. Are there any other settings I can check?

thx

Hi pazabot,

Did you remove any other Java versions installed on your computer, before you installed the latest update? Some people have had issues with LW when more than 1 Java version's installed And did you download the offline JRE installer?

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.
Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If that doesn't help, right click on the LW icon > properties > compatibility. Vista users, right click the LW icon & run as adminstrator & also try compatibility mode for XP.

Do you have Alcohol software installed? If so, look here.
LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call

You could also try the advice here: FIX: LimeWire won't start or closes immediately

Pazabot,

I have been running Limewire Pro v.5.2.13 on my Windows XP operating system for a long time with previous versions before that and have never had a problem until about a week ago. I click on the program and after scouring for limes, it opens up and then closes about 30 seconds later. I tried several different things none of which worked however, a simple fix has resolved the issue. Here's what I did:

(click on the following tabs from the desktop)
My Computer>Control Panel>Security Center>Internet Options>Security>Trusted Sites>Sites. Then add the following two sites to the zone: https://limewire.com and https://limewire.exe

That's all I did and I haven't had any problems since! I know it's a lot of clicking but it only takes about 2 mins. Good luck.

Birdy, thanks for this, but I can't even get LW up long enough to look at the settings, so that won't work. I did run the RTE offline version. I do not have the Alcohol software. I did remove all the Java that I had in my add/remove programs. Plus I removed anything from LW that I had in folders after I ran a search. I tried doing both programs on the offline versions for Java and LW.

Larrylarr, I was SO hoping this would work, but no go. I did what you suggested, does the same flippin thing. I have had to use Frostwire, it works fine but I still would like to figure this out. In my trusted sites where these two sites are listed, there are stars present, is there for you: looks like http//*.limewire.com and same for the other.

WHy would I be able to use frostwire and not limewire?
I am So beyond frustrated and puzzled.....help!!!!

It's working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What I did was read through the Larrylarr post "fixes for Limewire". The one setting that caused all this was the setting in compatability (it was set to Windows 98) and I changed it to Windows 2000.
That is all that was wrong.

thanks for the help!!!!
