Limewire PRO IS A SCAM!! Have been using Limewire PRO since 29-12-2004 when I purchased it from Limewire @ $18.88 and everything has been running sweet until I upgraded to 4.9.23 when I was relagated to Basic. Now my email address is not recognised by Limewire and NO-ONE will respond to my emails and I cannot get support!! I still have the original print off of my order conformation so I know all my details are correct! What kind of a scam is this?? BEWARE DO NOT GIVE LIMEWIRE ANY MONEY IT IS AN OUT AND OUT SCAM!! |

Mr Squonk You purchased LW Pro in December last year, and you got your 6 months worth of upgrades/updates and, I presume, technical support. Therefore, unless you renew your purchase, for just under $15.00 for another 6 months worth of supportand updates, then you are on your own but there is nothing stopping you from asking forum members for help and advice, which they (and I) will gladly give. By the way, when I first purchased LW Pro, in May last year, I found I got more help and advice from members of this forum than I ever did from technical support. So you haven't really lost anything. Squonk, Limewire is a fairly lean organization. After 6 months the e-mail addresses of pro users are removed from the pro support data base and if they recieve an e-mail from an address not on the database they will in all likelyhood never see it! E-mail support is only given to paid up pro users. Limewire is NOT a scam, the terms of this support are laid out cleary in their web pages. For my part, I gladly renewed my pro membership, not because of the claims it was better(although as it happens, I think it is), but because I consider it a tiny amount to pay for a very good application, and the money is put towards improving LW for the future. It doesn't always work perfectly, but as someone on the forums said recently, it's a roller coaster ride, and I'm more than happy to be a part of it! As Bobboy said in his post, all the support you need is on these forums, and the developers do take notice of sensible remarks posted here! |

When I paid my $18.88 no mention of renewal fees were seen, in fact, even today I have extracted this from LW's website :- "LimeWire is a software application. The one-time payment for LimeWire PRO is a payment to purchase a copy of the program. PRO purchasers also receive Technical Support via email and up to 6 months of free updates. " Indicating that, "ONE TIME PAYMENT" are the key words here, should you choose, no further payment is required! I must also question the following :-" and up to 6 months of free updates." So, after 6 months the PRO user has to PAY yet AGAIN to get any, quiet frequent, update? And the BASIC user......... oh yes, they get them FREE!!!!! Now let me see.......how fair is that??????? |

Further to the above, I also use ACQUISITION, and David Watanabe assures me that his is a one-off payment for an application that does everything LW can. So guess where my allegiance will lie from now on......... Good-bye Limewire, I will not miss the "this application has unexpectedly quit" message at nearly EVERY session. And to anyone out there wishing to give money to a good cause, buy ACQUISITION, it's only $16.99!!!! |

Squonk ... you may just have a point there with "LimeWire PRO, which is available for a one-time charge of $18.88." which is also on the website. The wording on there is open to interpretation, but taken in context it is clear that this is for 6 months. Perhaps the web site wording should however be changed....... |

Quibbling over a few dollars aside, the fact that you are insulting Limewire in favour of Acquisition which uses Limewire's source code, seems a bit rich to me! ..... Which did you say was the good cause, again???? et voila ... you're wisdom would be welcome on this subject. |

hehe--ACQX uses a limewire core. If you are getting unexpected quits with LW, you'll likely have problems with ACQX. btw--how much do you think the development of the core is worth? Dave says he just works on the interface, so that is what you are really paying for there. I stopped using ACQX because it didn't contribute to or give reasonable credit to the open-source work that the volunteers and developers were doing. Goodbye |

Only A Hobo: since you ask it... Acquisition... mummh yeah. Stief and I both know Dave is a jerk and only rips LW source to make money. He never did any contributions to the LW source, yet, ACQX is still alive only because of LW work (LW core just works). He doesn't care about Gnutella. Hey, he banned me from his forum then closed it because he can't deal with negative feedback I told him: he was hijacking LW settings so his users get more performance while degrading everybody else performance. Also, when you know that about 70% of ACQX leaves are not sharing... He is also illegal by not respecting the LW GPL license. I only can blame everybody that pays for ACQX instead of LW, you are encouraging some kind of a leecher and scammer. Now, I LMAO if Dave would respond here, that would be funny for me and entertaining for all of you Ciao
