Default Aux Magnet Error

I've been using the free version of Limewire for about a year now. About six months ago the program started asking if I wanted to upgrade to a newer version. I finally got tired of clicking no to the upgrade, so I did it. As soon as I finished installing the new version, I clicked on it to run the program and it returned the error: Could not open the Aux magnet key (or something like that). Then it says I have a Java program error and that java did not install properly. But it is installed and working fine. I know this has been posted here before, I read the others. The problem is, no one really had a solution. Here's what I have tried:

I have reinstalled Java and Limewire so many times I can't think straight.

I have tried all the posted solutions for fixing typical Limewire problems.

I downloaded Registry Mechanic and ran that.

There's probably other stuff I have tried also but can't think of right now. Limewire has not worked on my computer in about six months.

I definately think it is some kind of problem with my registry, but I don't know how any of that stuff works. Can I reload it? Should I reinstall windows xp? I am also having other minor problems that may be related. When I open my hotmail account, it tells me that I don't have internet explorer installed and that I should install a newer version such as 6.0 or higher. Thing is, I have internet explorer 6.0 installed and it works just fine. These problems and others have been going on for quite some time and let me tell you it's driving me nuts. No one knows what the problem is or how to fix it. I'm hoping there is one of you guys out there that will be able to help or forward this on to someone that will be able to. Thank you.
