BSOD and reboot Not a noob to software, but I need to know if anyone has experienced blue screen of death using limewire..... when I started using it, all worked great. Since v.4.09 limewire will get as far as loading the interface and connecting to the network. Then the program either instantly halts and processor maxes out for a few seconds, or I get bsod and instantly reboot. I've checked the error logs and the only conflict I'm getting from those is Executive Software Diskeeper. I have the same results with dk turned of and all of it's drivers terminated. Has this prob come up before and what are some of the software/driver conflicts? Should I re-install JRE?? Thanks in advance...... : ) Oh Yeah...tried reverting to older lw, same result. |
There are many things that can cause the BSOD for instance I overclock my computer and when I am trying to find the best settings I will get the BSOD it may be memory timings, CPU core voltage, graphics voltage , etc. Usually if you are not OC it is either a driver conflict or a hardware component going bad IE memory, CPU, hard drive, etc. It can be very hard to find, if you can get the error number you can search the Microsoft data base to see if there are any fixes or possible solutions to the problem. If you can remember when it started happening if there was any new hardware or software that was recently installed that would be a good place to start. And yes you can have a corrupt install of Java so un installing it and re installing it may help use the most current version of Java and use the offline installer. The link below will take you to the newest version of Java. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp |
the only major changes at the time were; update to lw v4.09? i think it was. i will change sys mechanic settings to get an error # and re-install java. i'll let you know how it goes. have you ever heard of a conflict b/w limewire and diskeeper? thanks |
No but I believe disk keeper monitores your hard drive and it may be detecting a error on you hard drive have you run chkdsk |
You can always check the options left from this posting Limewire and Blue Screen of Death (click on link) Whilst LW might be the catalyst/trigger, it's not the underlying reason for BSOD. |
Thank you for the link; gives good info...very complete. :) I've chkd both disk and ram and both are ship-shape. I've discovered that if I manually delete the following; I don't have a crash problem anymore: createtimes.bak fileruns.bak gnutella.net spam.dat ttree.cache these are from c:\doc&sttings\username\application data\limewire. I monitored what files were being created as limewire started, connected, was configured and hashed my share and when I exit. The above mentioned files are being created on program exit and when I manually delete them before restart liimewire, i don't crash. I must stress that my system runs pretty good, I've never had BSOD before limewire. It seems if I leave the rest of that directory alone and just delete the above files, my share and connection setting remain configged. Does anyone know how these files influence an incomplete file if I were to exit during a download, delete the above files (as I must or I will crash), and try to continue? |
