Trouble installing Limewire I have installed Limewire 10.9(basic) and had it work just fine at first but then it would get weird on me and keep asking to be reinstalled when it already was; it mainly did this when I was simply trying to access the Limewire shared folder. It also would give me an error message that there was a previous version of Limewire installed but when I tried to erase the files it won't allow me to, saying that they are write protected. Or it would say that certain files in the Limewire program could not be deleted because they were being used...it would even say this when I ensured that all progams had been closed. Can someone help me figure out how to install it so it works again? Or if it won't work, to help me completely remove it from my computer? If I get Limewire Pro then the old Limewire will prevent it from installing fully or completely(it's also good piece of mind to know you can remove a program from your computer and not be stuck with it taking up space if it won't work properly. |
Do NOT use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to attempt to uninstall LW. It won't work & you'll probably end up with a partially uninstalled program. This has been true since LW version 4.4 The normal way to uninstall is reinstallling (it uninstalls previous version at beginning of installation), or going to Start menu >Programs > LW > Uninstall, or going to LW's program folder, look for uninstaller program. It sounds to me your initial problem was caused by a spyware program that doesn't work properly. Do you use PestPatrol or AOL security by any chance? If yes, then either uninstall it or put LW on the exceptions list. Otherwise PestPatrol or similar will remove parts of the program. Only use 1. ad-ware (FREE), & also Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) as these ones work properly. LW does not have spyware but some spyware programs don't work properly. To solve your other problems, I'd suggest you delete your LW preferences folder; instructions Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.), & then reinstall LW. Get LW from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml Run your system over with Crap Cleaner BTW it might be worth checking this page WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link) & do an online virus check. Your problem sounds suspicious if a spyware program was not the cause. It might be worth getting Norbie to help you. His link is listed at that page. |
im new on this forum and i have tried to install limewire but everytime i try it freezes up and i have to cancel the installer i have also tried the offline installer but my computer gets confused and has no idea which program to use to open it. any suggestions would be nice thank you |
Try this, uninstall your Java. Now reinstall it using the offline installer here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=50931 Once that's done, install LW using the offline installer (there's a link to it in the above thread). :) |
i dont have java i dont think ive ever had it |
Are you sure? You'll need Java to run LW:D Well... if there's definitely no Java on your computer, go ahead & install it, then install LW. See the last link I gave you. :) |
10.9 Hi, im new to the forums so forgive me if im repeating other peoples problems lol. I am trying to install limewire 10.9, the installation goes fine until i get to the screen that says 'please wait installing java....' it just stops. The java screen is still moving, but the installation ever seems to get any further. I have checked add/remove programmes and Java has been installed. Please help. Thankyou. Mem |
Use your Add/Remove Programs control panel to remove Java. Then reinstall it using the "Offline" version. There's often issues when installing Java online (over the net.) The offline version means you 1st downld the installer, & then install it. Java 1.5 (take the JRE) After that, see if you can open or reinstall LW. If problems, also reinstall LW using the "Offline" installer. |
Cheers. It works now. !:D :D :D |
Xcellent! Thanks for letting us know! :) ;) |
