program wont start.

ive used limewire for years. yesterday i ran spycatcher and it listed dlp.dll and spy sherriff as threats so i had them deleted. today limewire would not start so i uninstalled and reinstalled and it still wont start. the installation completes but the program just wont start. the adaware i mentioned is the only thing i can think of at the time.

You'll need to reinstall LW. Some spyware programs don't work properly & some think p2p programs have spyware when they don't. So you have a choice of putting LW on the exceptions list & spycatcher should have one. Else, getting a reliable spyware program that doesn't make mistakes. Ad-aware & also Spybot - Search & Destroy (FREE) are the 2 we & the spyware forums recommend.

Well ... perhaps do the trio:

Uninstall all versions of java using your add/remove control panel.

Reinstall Java using the "Offline" installer here Java 1.5 (take the JRE)

Delete your LW preferences found either in step 2 or 3 here whilst LW is closed of course Fixes for Limewire

Reinstall LW using the "Offline" version http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

It might even be an idea to keep spycatcher inactive during this process just in case. ;)

Well it's got me baffled then. I don't know if you'll like this suggestion, but how about uninstalling Spycatcher. Then re-install the offline installer version of LW again. I've a suspicion SC is removing components of LW & that's why it won't work. Your reinstallation was probably damaged as soon as you launched it or maybe even during installation.

After you uninstall Spycatcher & before you reinstall LW, run this small utility Crap Cleaner as it will help to clean up your system registry wise. If Norbie recommends it, it should be good.
Actually whilst you're at Norbie's site, you might want to have it checked over. NorbiesWorld (click on link) & run his recommended program & report it on his site.

that did it. uninstalling spycatcher and also running ccleaner, which is a cool free program btw, did the trick. thanks dude.
