Unhappy firewall problems

I have read thruogh the forums and tried manually configuring my firewall but nothing seems to work. I have a hewlet packard running xp. I also have the newest version of norton internet security. This problem started about a month ago. before that i could download with no problems. i can do searches and upload to others but not download from other computers. i have checked all my settings for my firewall and have them set to dowload and upload from others. any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm pretty sure it's a firewall problem consideriing the globe in the bottom corner has a wall in front of it. no matter what i do the wall is still there and i can't download. i can search and upload to others with no problems but not download.

Usually if it is a firewall you can not upload to others. We are going to need a little more info.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

13. Do a speed test post the results here.

ram-1gb
hard drive main 70gb

running norton internet security 2005 with 2006 update
windows firewall(don't know if it's running) when I disable norton firewall it shows windows firewall is down in my security setting window
connection type- dsl through Verizon(I also did the speed test and here are the results Download Speed: 2813 kbps (351.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 701 kbps (87.6 KB/sec transfer rate))

connecting from home
isp provider- verizon
not sharing connection with other computers
http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ did this test and it said (Your test worked!)
i don't think the windows fire wall is active because when I disable nortons firewall it shows up in my security settings windows that my computer is not protected

I used to have limewire pro which I purchased over a year ago and it worked great until I started getting popups that a newer version was available. my downloads started to get worse until they totally stopped so I upgraded to a newer version. I am supposed to get free upgrades for right? not the case had to get free version and i'm not upgrading to pro until this problem is fixed. not goin to spend money if i can't download. i've had the same isp and computer the whole time.

Your modem has a NAT firewall in it and probably need to be configured.

Verizon's Westell 2200 has basic firewall features that are user selectable. One of the first things I noticed with the Westell 2200 last year was that I no longer received Windows Messaging Services spam. This isn't instant messaging spam (also called spim), but a whole other category of nasty stuff that takes the form of gray pop-up windows. Verizon's network was inundated with this stuff under the old Westell modem, unless you installed a firewall or disabled Windows Messaging Services (a networking messaging functionality provided in Windows). The Westell provides NAT services. So right out of the box, with the firewall features turned off, the Westell 2200 gets full "stealthed" scores from PC Flank. You have as much protection as you get from a good broadband router. The 2200's configuration screens come with three built-in firewall settings, and you can also customize your own setting. There are both inbound and outbound protections available with this firmware-based firewall.

Below is the link for setting up your modem.

By the way I like you taste in music. I also am a Floyd fan.
