Hi Aaron, I'm running Windows ME and am about to upgrade to XP BUT I don't want to lose LW. I'd be very interested to know what happened when you reinstalled LW.

breezin1001,

Do you realise you've resurrected a thread that's almost 4 years old?? Don't expect a reply from AaronC72!!!!
If you're worried about losing your library, incompletes etc when you upgrade to XP... just make sure you back everything up before the switch. If you have incompletes you don't want to lose, back up the .dat & .bak files. AFAIK this should enable you to copy your incompletes back in & resume them when you're using XP (someone will tell me if I'm wrong?)

As for the LW app, you can back up the old installer if you love the version you're using or just download the latest version when you have XP installed.

*If you're a Pro user, back up the Pro installer(s) you have. Just in case you have trouble downloading a new Pro version

Default Windows XP

Many thanks for your prompt response and the good advice regarding back-up for my LW files.
My main concern was regarding Java software which LW uses [I think] and which Microsoft informed me, "was incompatible with Windows XP."
It's really too technical for me to understand but the fact that it's not been mentioned, would indicate that it's not an issue, so I won't worry.
I should also mention that because I already have LimeWire installed on my system, it would automatically be accepted by the XP Firewall when THAT is installed. Right?

Thanks again for your help!

Ron

You will have to configure the XP firewall to allow LW access but that's no drama. If you're using another software firewall (ZoneAlarm, Norton, SyGate etc), don't bother with the XP firewall... just turn it off. If & when you need instructions for configuring firewalls, you'll find info here
Firewall setup

I use XP & have never had a problem with Java!! I wouldn't worry about that
