help needed please Hi, download limewire because a friend said is was a good source of info. My problem is my son has deleted the limewire startup. So i have tried to download limewire again and i get a message says unable to download as (clink.jar is in use by me or another user). How can i remove the old limewire and start fresh by downloading a new one. I have tried remove programmes but Limewire is not shown, and i cannot delete the file because of this clink.jar thing. Please help. Simon |
Do not use add or remove programs to uninstall it. Try to do so by clicking on the start menu. Then scroll to all programs and wait for another column to appear now look for LimeWire it should be on the far right hand side at least that is where it is on my PC. Once you find LimeWire highlight it and wait for yet another column to appear. Once this has happened you should see Uninstall. Click it. This will help you properly uninstall it. Now if LimeWire is already uninstalled and you still can't get it to reinstall properly you may need to reinstall Java using the offline installer before reinstalling LimeWire. |
Also you can delete your limewire preferences foler. It's located at C: documents and settings/your user name/.limewire and delete that folder. If i'm wrong tell me because i think that's the folder you have to delete. |
I need help! I've had LimeWire for a while now... and I've lost about 90% of my songs saved in the "share" folder, they've just desapered, this is the second time that this happens. Is this normal becuase I don't use the "PRO" version? Has this has ever happen to any one before? And no... they are not in my "trash" folder. |
Have you used the computer's search to try & find them? Look for one of the file names & see if they turn up somewhere. Is it possible that you (or maybe somebody else) deleted them by mistake? Delete from the LW library is hard to get around, things don't go to the recycle bin. You'd need a file recovery program to try & retrieve them http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=49851 Good luck:) |
I jus tried restoring my pc and it wouldn't let me restore to any point... i really don't know what is going on! Like i said previously, this is not the frist time this happens to me... last time i lost over 300 songs, and this time close to 400! I've searched them by name, file type and nothing comes up!!!! |
As far as reinstalling LW, download the "Offline" version of LW. Then reboot your computer, then install LW. The reboot should kill any java activity. Reinstalling LW will uninstall any previous versions at the beginning of installation. If same problem, remove your Java using the add/remove control panel & reinstall it. I hope you weren't saving your LW downloads into the LW program folder. That is a fatal mistake if you have. As suggested, search the computer using the search function for the extension of the files. eg: .mp3 |
I've alredy done serveral searches, but no luck! over 300 songs are GONE! so I can change the default download location "share", to like a folder inside "My Music" folder and it will still download all the files properly? |
Changing location makes no difference other than if it includes either your video or audio downlds then that directory will create a new incomplete folder for the newer downloads. But will still keep a record of present downloads. ie: most other incomplete files will be moved over afaik. |
