LimeWire Setup Dialog problem

Hi there... I've read through many of the threads here and tried what advice was offered and haven't found anything that works yet.

I'm running Windows XP and I downloaded LimeWire for the first time yesterday. When I try to open it, a few seconds pass and the LimeWire Setup Dialog box comes up, but it's all greyed out. Nothing is frozen, I can just X out of it and try again, but always the same result.

I uninstalled that and then downloaded and installed the latest Java update (J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7). I tried downloading the offline version of LimeWire this time, but the same thing happened.

Again, I tried a few tips I read (running as admin, deleting the .limewire file, changing compatibility to Windows NT), but nothing has worked so far. What do you think?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, I'm not quite sure, but I think my graphics card is Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile. I saw the advice that involved ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, and I checked where the post said to, but that was all I got from it.

You might've been through some of these, have a look anyway:)

Did you try changing compatibility to Win 2000 (you said you tried NT)?

Yep, I saw those, and they don't apply because I don't have an ATI or NVIDIA graphics card. Mine is the Intel one i mentioned. I looked through everything in there, and there were no settings options that even sounded like the ones I'm supposed to change.

And yes, I tried changing compatibility to Windows 2000 as well.

Try reinstalling Java (if you haven't tried it yet.) ie: use the Add/remove control panel to remove Java. Then reinstall using the "Offline" Java installer: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) which is about a 15 MB download. Else, change your version of Java. You could try Java 1.4.2 but not advisable with the newer version LW. Else, the Java 1.6 beta. However, if you use the Java 1.6 you will need to 1st remove all other versions of Java otherwise LW won't see it. http://java.sun.com/javase/6/download.jsp JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB download

OK, I'll try that. Now, I have 2 Java programs because I wasn't sure if I needed both-- one is J2SE Runtime Environment, and the other is Java 2 Runtime Environment. Is there a difference between the two and if so, which do I need?

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is what you need! The other will probably be too large anyway due to it being used for multiple purposes such as java development.

Yeeeeah... I uninstalled all the ther versions I had and installed 1.5. No difference. What the heck?
