well i was trying to uninstall the limewire program but it said i couldnt? then i got a trouble shooting window that popped up and said this ..

One or more necessary files appear to be invalid. This is generally caused by corrupted installation. Please try downloading and installing Limewire again. If the problem persists, please copy and paste the message below and send it to:bugs@limewire.com Thank you.

How were you trying to uninstall LW? If you attempted to do it via the add/remove control panel, that's not the way to do it. Start menu > Programs > LW > Uninstall.

Also, reinstalling LW will uninstall the previous version at the beginning of installation.

Yes that is the report. What it tells me (& I can't always read them properly) is that you should probably delete the LW preferences. Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Do both steps because one is the older location, one is the newer. Yours could be in either location. Do this before you attempt to reinstall LW. What's more, when you reinstall, get the "Offline" LW version not the recommended one!

I reply to the above email about the constant message that kept popping up on my desktop. Firstly everything was going fine with Limewire, great music downloads until 1 day I done nothing different than I normally do, but while a particular song was downloading I began getting these online popups which at first I just kept closing and thought nothing of it and it continued on for days and days and was now running into weeks, and before I had Limewire, my connection speed was 2mb and it was operating fine for me even at that speed until this virus from a Limewire download took it's toll on my pc and now although my broadband company have increased my connection to 7mb(great) it has become slower than slow. So i thought a quick uninstall and reinstall of Limewire would do the trick and clear the problem (because I knew it was Limewire that caused the initial virus). But the plan hasn't worked and despite still getting endless popups online and my pc working at a speed less than 1st gear Im now at the desperate stage of asking for advice on how I might be able to sort this or is it a case of the virus is here to stay meaning a new pc will have to be bought because im used to working on a fast operating pc. please reply
many thanks

It does sound like you've got a virus on your computer. When you say that you were getting online popups, do you mean that LW was always popping open & wouldn't stay closed? That's a pretty common one. Please read the thread below
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

I'd suggest that you go to Norbiesworld, register & follow the directions for free computer help. Norbie will be able to check out your computer & help you to get rid of any nasties.

Please be careful with what you download. Always make sure that you're using a good AV. Keep it updated & scan all downloaded files before opening!!!
