Default Rather, an Uninstallation

My boyfriend recently got limewire but deleted it due to problems such as bad lagging and repetitive poping up. It would reopen on him despite most efforts to keep it closed (he's very computer illiterate) so I told him I would remove the program. Once I had went into his computer settings and manually uninstalled myself we kept getting the same strange notice saying he had one or more necessary files that appeared to be invalid.

Now, I own limewire on my mac and I've never experienced any problems similiar to this -- expecially because I removed the program and I don't understand why it keeps suggesting a redownload. Also, there are traces of the program left on his computer that it simply wont let me erase.

Will redownloading limewire really solve his issues? I'm sorry to bother but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

With much regards,
Sam,

The repetitive popping up sounds like a virus. Have a look through the thread below & check out point 4
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

If this is the case, then just uninstalling LW won't stop the popups - the virus is still around. If your boyfriend needs help to clean up his computer, he can always go to Norbiesworld & get some free computer help (Norbie has helped a lot of LW users who've had this virus) He needs to make sure that he's using a good AV program, keep it updated & scan all downloaded files before opening!

*Reinstalling LW is one way of removing an old version, as LW will automatically uninstall an existing version prior to installing the new one! If you've manually deleted all LW files & folders then I'd say it's a virus The correct way to uninstall LW on Windows is via start > all programs > LW then use the uninstall option. Uninstalling through add/remove programs can cause problems!!

Oh no, really? I'll take a look at that site and recommend the same thing to him. Thank you very much for the heads up,

He could try the method below (click on link)

If that doesn't work then I'd say go & see Norbie!

Sorry...I didn't know about this method when I answered your post the first time!!

Do you mean that your download of the LW installer won't finish?? Or is it the installation that you're stuck on? Is the error you're getting "LimeWire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections"?

You'll need to make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall (2 will cause problems). Configure your firewall for port 6346, that's LW's default port. You'll find a lot of info, plus a link for firewall setup, within the thread below
Connection problems? Check here first!

Post back with a bit more info if you're still stuck.

Next time you have a problem, please start a new thread rather than tacking your question onto the end of someone else's thread that has absolutely nothing to do with your question. It causes confusion for everyone but most of all the person who started the thread!
