Default Problems installing latest free version

I've have been trying to install latest free version and keep getting message saying older version is still running please delete and start again. I have looked for older version to uninstall but it has disappeared from program files therefore can't find it to uninstall it. If it isn't there why is it telling me it is still running. Surely the newer version should overwrite the old version without all this hassle. Tried using the other installer and got same message. This is very frustrating! Tried clicking everything but still same problem, now losing will to live!
Please help
Spooky

Open task manager (ctrl/alt/del) & see if there's a LW process running. If there is, end the process. Now try to install the new version.

If you've tried to uninstall LW thru add/remove programs, this can cause problems. You might have to use your computer's search to look for LW files/folders & delete that way.
The correct way to uninstall LW is via start > all programs > LW & use the uninstall option there.

Normally, installing a new version will automatically uninstall the old one. That's why I wondered if you'd tried to uninstall thru add/remove programs & run into trouble because of that.

Default problemts installing latest version

Hi Birdy
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried everything you have said but I'm still getting the same message telling me that an older version of limewire is running and I need to exit from it. This is not so. I got this message on my very first attempt to update and Limewire wasn't even running. I can't find the program to uninstall it anyway yet it is in my program files folder when I look via explorer. I am totally frustrated with it now and wish I hadn't bothered to update and would appreciate some technical support from Limewire. Do they have a contact number to ring so that I can speak to someone?

I take it there was no LW process running when you opened task manager?
Check out FOTH's advice here for getting rid of the LW leftovers (don't worry about the malware advice...it's directed at a person who had a trojan)

Make sure that you show hidden files & folders If you've changed the location of your saved folder from the default, make sure that it's in a safe location & won't be deleted unknowingly after a search for all LW files & folders!

There's no LW phone support. Just email support for up to 6 months, after buying LW Pro.
