Install Java first. You can either try the latest version (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.
People using LW 5 won't be able to use Java 5 - you'll need to install Java 6.
Now reinstall LW: http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireWin-full.exe

Default Same problem, any other ideas?

I have a brand new laptop, the most recent Java and am still getting this same problem. Have googled it as well as searched here, to no avail. Could this be a particular vista setting that needs tweaking?

I googled this late last year. Spittet files is a type of splitting of files into smaller ones. Much as in the same way you can RAR a file & split it into parts. You need specific program(s) to join those parts however.

Whether this is the problem I have no idea. Not sure why you should be getting such a message unless the message has another meaning. Perhaps the java or LW installation is incomplete or corrupt.

Try this: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html but before reinstalling LW, delete your LW preferences also; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Default Splittet files...

I did the above and am now viewing hiiden files. There is no LW folder there at all. This error comes during the installation process, just after clicking "english" so I am assuming the preferences folder has not even been installed at the point I get the error. After the error, the installation aborts itself.

What I can't figure out is why this is such an uncommon problem. It leads me to believe (considering my laptop is new and running the newest versions of everything) that it must be a security setting or a preloaded program that is preventing the installation.

Also, the error says it "annot open the input file for splittet files"so maybe the problem isn't with the splittet files but this input file, make any sense? Probably bating a dead horse here but hoping there may be some insight out there.

An alternative to the installer is another version. All you do is unzip & then use. However you must have the most recent JRE java version installed on your system.

Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!

Do you have spyware program on your computer? Some anti spyware programs are also anti p2p sharing programs despite they have no spyware. It's either poor programming else, the programmers themselves are against p2p sharing (yes I've read one spyware programmer admit it.)

Default Figured it out!

For future reference to anyone having the same problem:

Download LW, save it to computer (don't run). Pause Kaspersky Antivirus. Open download and install. Seems the problem is Kaspersky. Worked for me. Thanks LOTR for offering your adivce.

Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

Now install LW & make sure that you've used the offline installer. When you're at the LW site & click to download, cancel the dialog box that pops up. Now use the option to download the offline installer.
Thanks a million - had the same problem as Noobster

I don't know if you've found this link in your searches, but if you haven't then try this: LimeWire Forums
