An alternative to the installer is another version. All you do is unzip & then use. However you must have the most recent JRE java version installed on your system.

Download ‘Other’ version & simply unzip & use!

Do you have spyware program on your computer? Some anti spyware programs are also anti p2p sharing programs despite they have no spyware. It's either poor programming else, the programmers themselves are against p2p sharing (yes I've read one spyware programmer admit it.)

I don't know if you've found this link in your searches, but if you haven't then try this: LimeWire Forums

I tried that after you posted it. Nope, still a no go.

I even tried running it in compatibility for XP SP2 and still nothing.

And of course I've tried running all of it as administrator and even tried installing to a location other than default.

PLEASE HELP

Which version of LW are you trying to install?

Which version of Java are you using? Do you only have one Java version installed on your computer?
If you've already updated your Java to the latest version, try this older version of Java 6 (if you're trying to install LW 5 then you'll need Java 6 & so the other older Java mentioned earlier in the thread will be no good): Archive: Download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6u5
Install that Java, reboot & then see whether LW will install properly.

If you're trying to install LW 5 basic, you could try installing LW 4 basic & see whether you get the same error. You can download 4.18.8 from LW's older versions page: Lime Wire » Download Out-Of-Date Installers

If you have Pro, you can download 4.18.8 by clicking on the 'Get LW PRO Classic' link on the left of your personal download page.

Read this before installing an older version of LW: Just make sure that you have your current installer saved, because installing another version of LW will remove whatever you have installed at the moment. And if you have a Pro version which you can't update - you would lose that version!!

If you can install LW 4 without a problem, just try installing LW 5 & let it automatically uninstall LW 4... don't uninstall LW 4 first. See whether that makes any difference.

I've tried old and new versions of LimeWire BASIC, I've tried older & newer versions of Java.

Nothing is working. I've got the latest version of Java running right now and it was just updated a few hours ago. I tried going back to install LimeWire (with a shred of hope that it might finally work) and still nothing.

I appreciate all of the help you guys are giving, cuz I'm sure there are still people out there with this problem.

Trust me though, so far, everything you guys have mentioned, I've already tried, and nothing has worked so far.

Sorry that you're having such a PITA with this I'm not sure if I can help much more - maybe somebody else will have more ideas?

Just a couple of questions - are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Vista? Which JRE versions have you been downloading - Windows or Windows x64?

You probably did, but when you went through this link from post #2 http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html did you run both CCleaner and the MS cleanup utility?

I'm using Vista 32-bit .

I'm not sure which JRE version I downloaded bcos I didn't download it from the link you posted in an earlier posting. Instead, I got it from the Java software updater that came with the software.

As for the clean-up utilities I dont remember downloading either!

I think this problem arose due to an out-dated Java version. So, the best advice I could give anyone out there intending to install the latest version of LW (Version 5?) is:
Step 1. To check your Java version (you can do this in Control Panel at the Start menu. Click on the Java icon; in the General tab, click 'About...');

Step 2. Go to Drive C: and then to 'Program Files' and delete the LW file;

Step 3. Install the latest Java version (in the 'Update' tab);

Step 4. Install the latest LW version from the LW website;

Which are really your suggested solutions and they worked!
So, thanks!!!

I use Kaspersky and I tried turning it off, then installing LW, and actually it worked, cause I didn't get the "splittet" message, but then when I executed limewire, I got the message shown on the picture.

So, even though it got installed, there is something still wrong with it. Help anyone? thank you.
