Unhappy Exclamation marks (!) losing my music

I quit MS MEdia player 11. I use ITunes now.
The Exclamation mark started showing up after a download of MSMP11
They continue now that I'm using ITunes.

I went to the Itunes forums, did a search and found this, but I don't know what to do with it.
Anybody?

That means iTunes was using the music as references only, the actual files were not within iTunes Music Library. Similar to how a playlist works. In fact, unless you set both iTunes to add to its Music Library & LW to copy files to iTunes, all you will get is a playlist in iTunes. If the files are moved or removed, then iTunes will not be able to find them. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...tml#post129773

Chances are the ! is showing because the files no longer exist at the original location they were when first added to iTunes (as a form of playlist.)

I'd recommend a computer search for any of the songs, once you find the folder they are in, drag & drop that folder onto iTunes Library icons. However only do this after changing iTunes preferences to allow Adding new files be added to iTunes Music Library.

Something some people do (not me) & is worth looking at is: Instead of duplicate music files (one in your LW download folder & a copied one in iTunes Music Library folder), perhaps you can set your Audio files to download to the iTunes Music Library instead. iTunes will then re-arrange them itself. To set LW to download only Audio files to iTunes Music Library, see LW 5 Download Location - and how to change location if preferred. (However with iTunes set to Copy files, I'm not sure if this will result in duplicates in iTunes music library.) This last option was originally suggested for LW 4. If you are using LW 4, then let us know, there's slightly different instructions for setting up Audio only download location in LW 4.
