Default Prioritizing Files

How about adding an option to prioritize files ? Edonkey has this feature and I like it quite a lot.

One problem I have with Xolox is that I have 10 episodes of a TV series in my download qeue (how do you spell that word ;-) and one is 92% complete, while another one is at 0%.
What happens quite often is that one user has all ten of the episodes and since there is no way of prioritizing downloads, Xolox will start to download the file that is at 0% rather than prioritizing (and finishing) the one that is at 92%.

This is really unfortunate if the user that had those files no longer shares them and I end up with 10 partials and no complete.

Can this be implemented in a future version ? Thanks !

If only one user has files then your odds of getting them are about 1 in several million, not sure how relavent that is. Prioritizing them would be a possibility, but would also add to confusion and complicate the program. So this one could go either way - However, a similar thing I would like is to be able to force xolox to research a downloading beyond its own natural searching and make a file go from queue to an active connect [thus killing a connection on another file??]

also, if you're wondering, the correct spelling is
Queue

Unregistered you *could* pause the other ones in the mean while but yes I understand what you are saying. Although XoloX does have a download manager that runs in the background already ensuring you eventually get the file you queued, be able to " prioritize files " is a nice feature. This is noted and many similar ideas been discussed. There is a wide-range of things XoloX would like to add and implement but until they are done I won't mention them .

Gamer: The ability to 'force a research / resume' is something that has been discussed and I believe someone else mentioned it somewhere on this forums weeks ago. Those are things that have been thought out a likely to appear in future builds ( or so I hope ).

thanks

Lightbulb Alternate files (only differing in name)

Hi,

Another idea on the same priotisation-thread:

Some files have the exact same size, only their names differ (slightly). Most of the time these other (alternative) files contain
exactly the same data; just because someone decided to alter
the filename (eg. to add a www.something.com string).

It would be a waste to download both files, but on the other
hand Xolox shouldn't skip the download ofcourse.

To solve this problem partially, Xolox could download the file
with the best score first, pausing the alternate files until
the first one is done.

This gives the end user the opportunity to cancel the download
of the alternate files as soon as he had a chance to look at
the contents of the already downloaded file.

...just my 5 cents..

Ptrick.
