It is quite common that copies of a file exists with several slightly different names. E.g. songs with and without album name, TV shows with episode number in various formats or some comment added to the name. There are many examples of this.

It would be nice if XoloX could treat them as the same file. Either automatically detect that they are in fact equal or allow the user to suggest that they are equal. This would take the XoloX ability to use several sources one step further.

You could use clues like this to find equal files:
* The same words or numbers appear in the name.
* Equal file size
* Equal content (compare a few hundred bytes somewhere in the middle of the file.)
* Different capitalization.

It also happens that files with the exact same name and length are not detected as the same file (v1.09). My download list contains the following right now:
buffy 3x15 consequences.mpg 136 444 568 53%
buffy 3x15 consequences.mpg 136 444 568 04%
Perhaps they are capitalized differently in the original?

PS. I find it slightly annoying that XoloX converts filenames to lowercase.

That's where the CRC comes in place.
However, it's temp disabled in the latest version and may be enabled when the install base of XoloX is big enough. This is not a part of the general Gnutella protocol.
BTW, XoloX already looks if files are identical, not only by name when doing downloads of the same file of multiple hosts appart from the CRC check.
