Hosts connections settings First of all, I love Xolox! Coming from Bearshare & Gnotella, this client is just years ahead of every other one... However, some files I am looking for are rare & only a single user may be sharing them accross the entire network. In those conditions, Xolox is having difficulties finding those files, where Bearshare, Gnotella & Limewire have a much higher success rate. One reason is that those clients allow you to specify how many & which hosts to connect to on the network. I run on a DSL connection, and can easily connect to 10 to 15 hosts without running into bandwidth limitations. My guess is that Xolox only connects to 2 or 3 hosts, therefore limiting your horizon on the network. Soooo, one thing I'd like to see in a future version is the ability to control the hosts connections, namely: - connect to at least xx hosts - connect to hosts that share more than xxx MB - connect to hosts that are connected to more than xxx hosts This would make it a lot easier & quicker to find those 'one of' files Ideally the notion of hot list (cf Napster) could be introduced, so that you share your stuff with people who are also sharing, and could also limit your exposure when you share more sensitive (ie copyrighted) material... |
