![]() xolox is by far the best gnutella program that I have used, i was just wondering if there were any plans to open up the source so someone could try porting it to linux or if something like that is already under way; since the only problem i have with it is that i am stuck in windows when using it |

![]() Have you tried running it with WINE (Wine Is Not an Emmulator).. I'm not sure how much WINE can do but I know that it can run a lot of Microsuck products and also Half-Life/Counter strike. www.winehq.com Asche asche@blackdevils.ath.cx |

![]() Just wanted to say that I would also like Xolox open sourced. I mean it doesn't have to be LGPL or anything fany, just so that the rest of us without Windows machine could use it. Another advantage to an linux port would be that it would be very easy to get it working for Mac OSX (my personal machine) which has a very high install base. thanks Leibowitz |

![]() I agree. There are lot's of good reasons to open up the code. Like, there will be lot's of people helping you find the bugs and debbugging them. Or lot's of people porting your program to different systems, and such. I know that it's weird to think of letting everyone see your code but, hey, don't authors let readers see their books? And don't singers let people read the lyrics of their songs? You've done a great job, why not complete it by opening up your code? |

![]() Gents, I sent off an email to the developers of XoloX a couple weeks ago, asking this very question. The reply I received was negative. I can only paraphrase, as I had removed the email from my inbox already, but it went something to the effect that "We are focusing on the development of the Windows port. A Linux version is not a priority at this time." Fair enough. One can't very well ask them to have a perfect product immediately. I did not, however, inquire about open sourcing it. |
