![]() A high percentage of DSL and Cable users - in other words, the target gnutella community - uses some sort of NAT firewall such as the Efficient Networks SpeedStream product or the LinkSys Cable/DSL Router. This means that these users are firewalled and can neither support direct http downloading nor receive push requests. However, ALL of these users can map a port on their firewall device. If this is done, the user MUST be able to tell the gnutella client the proper IP address to give out in search hit responses. In limewire and others, for example, this is called "Force IP." Push requests make for failed downloads and useless search hits for undownloadable files, so this is a very important feature for responsible users of the gnutella net. Peace. Jesus Saves. |

![]() This is a question about the firewall IP address page. Is there a way to feed the address into Linewire using a script? I'm using Mac Dynamic DNS Client to update a DynDNS.org host name with my current WAN port address (DSL modem). This client allows me to run a script whenever it detects and updates a changed IP. It would be nice to be able to script it to automatically update the push address in Limewire. Anyone know if this is possible? |
