Low Resources!

This (i think) had already been posted before..but I just wanted to confirm it. In version 1.11 I had my system crash once do to 0% resources. This happened when I had Xolox open..and I saw the resources fall.

In version 1.12 it happens CONSTANTLY. It's less frequent if I just have xolox open by it self..and wait for my downloads/uploads to complete. THen I can close Xolox. I have to open Xolox on a fresh boot.

I have 320 MB of ram..and an AMD 800mhz Duron.

This sucks because i was recommending Xolox to a lot of people. But if you don't use v1.12 you can't really seem to connect to anything or do searches.

Are you using windows 2000/XP? If not, you experienced the typical windows 9x resource problems. It seems that Windows 9x does not correctly free reserved memory. I have the same problem here on my WinME computer, also had this with e.g. Bearshare before. After a few hours running Bearshare/Xolox the system gets very slow (might be same with any other client too), due to page swapping. So after a night sharing I have to restart.

I never noticed this happening??? I have version 1.12 running and it never did this to me. Could it be cause I have a program called memturbo running? It clears RAM resources automatically and fixes the windows mem leak problem.

Having no job, and feeling unable to justify spending money on a product I may only use once or twice a month, I like FOSI. The easiest way to get a working page is to [edit] kick yourself to FOSI [/edit] (wasn't really a link in the sense fo the word, but anyway...)

<rant>Personally, I only see Warez as bad if 1) You are a business who profits from the use of said warez, or 2) If *sell* copies of the software (bought legally or not) Otherwise you aren't loosing much when joe geek-with-no-money downloads your software off the net, and possibly make profit due to posative word-of-mouth advertizing. Another example is:

I want to learn to to 3D modeling, but don't have $200K to blow on a school, or even $5-15K to blow on a peice of software... but have ~$60 to spend on the tutorial books the colleges use. So I download Maya Wavefront, crack it, and play around with it, do the tutorials in the book, etc. This lets me get a free education, and get hired by a company that DOES buy the software. </rant>

[edit]To aswer the post below, $20 is $20 more than I have if I have $0, and I tend to use a piece of software once or twice -uncrippled- then rarely, if ever, use it again because it sucks, or I can find a freeware application that does the same thing. I say, if you use software a lot, or have the money to burn, go ahead and pay for it, but I personally don't believe in paying for software I've never tested for usefulness. [/edit]

I don't feel like argueing abour pro/contra warez today... but don't you think it's "suboptimal" to link a warez page on a public forum + for a shareware program that costs $20? I expect everyone knows Cosmo's Conner, FOSI, Astalavista etc and a moderator will delete those links.

I'm runining Win 98. What i've noticed is that when Zone Alarm is running, and i open up xolox v1.12, my memory resources goes down to 0. Everytime.

If I close zonealarm..open up Xolox..and then after a few minutes start up zonealarm again..all is good.

Didn't mean to make anyone mad by posting a warez link. I didn't even think about it when I did it. (Frankly, I didn't think anyone would mind.) Keep in mind that it's NOT illegal to post links to files on servers you have nothing to do with. At least not in the U.S. anyway. As stated by Code 431.322.12 of the Internet Privacy Act signed by Bill Clinton in 1995 it's not even illegal to host the file in question for private purposes. Anyway, I was just trying to help out the people that were having the mem leak problem by suggesting that they use the program in question. If you have the money to buy it, feel free to do so. I agree entirely with The Seeker. And if the type of files that are so vastly available to download using Xolox is any indication, most people who share files feel the same way. Remember that most mp3 files are illegal as well. (According to U.S. copyright laws.)

I don't know about Xolox, but zonealarm is a huge mem hog. Maybe in this case zonealarm is making the problem??

As for warez, to each his own. I myself steal software only when I can't afford it.

I have to say Memturbo seemed to do the trick. Had Zone Alarm running..opened Xolox..and it didnt crash out. I'll keep using it and let you know my findings.

BTW: what happens at the end of the 30 days on Memturbo? Does it not run anymore?
