These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

Servers I noticed in the new version of xolox we can put in additional server addresses - I did found some at gnutella.da.ru. Which parts of the address go where please? (There are two fields to enter the address inside) I don't want to put something in the wrong place. Also, how do I know which servers I am connected to please? Also this might sound like a dumb question but will the extra servers mean more files, or faster downloading? Many thankyou in advance. |

yes? Carole put IP in first field and port number in second (often seperated from IP by ":", do not enter it just put port in second field, port number is usualy 6346). However you don't need to do this, Xolox will search servers automatically (using so called host caches which provides hundreds of other servants). I would say this is more a nerd option: You can use it to share with friends (enter your friends IP and port to trade with him/her)... or if you meet people you wanna trade often with (enter their IP/port). Maybe you ask why is this feature, can't I trade with everyone? Short answer, no gnutella is too big to trade with everyone... you are connected to a so called horizon, which means the servers you have access to, you can see, around 1000 - 50000 servers. You will find more details about gnutella here: What is Gnutella? Hope it helps, Moak PS: To the Xolox developers: What is a typical horizon within Xolox, how many hosts do we connect with? PPS: Maybe it is a good idea to seperate all nerd option from the normal preferences. To keep Xolox simple for rookies, and give an advanced-nerd-making-happy-full-statistics-and-tuning-options-extra window. Without understanding Gnutella or a big help file it makes no sense to give newbies those options.... they will be confused only. After a while I like your idea of a simple servant. one more question Moak I know how to exchange files on chat programs like aim and icq but say i want to use xolox to exchange with a freind how do i? how also do i find my port and how do i know their port to use? is it quicker to use xolox that im's? when i know this how do i find the file from a friend i want to download? More than one question in this. But you know so much and I appreciate your help. Thankyou Moak |

I try... Hi, I would say programs like ICQ or mIRC (don't know AIM) are an easy way to trade files with friends (it's easy to use and more important: it's easy to find your friends). Any other method may be more complicate, you at least need to know the IP/port of your friend (or tell them your own). The port is usualy 6346, but the IP is more difficult to find - can change if you are using dynamic IP and willl be more difficult if you are using are firewall/proxy. So I would say... this is definitely something for more advanced users. Sorry, anyone can give a better solution? Actually if you are interested: It is possible to trade with friends (even with dynamic IP or firewalls), just ask a friend for help. A very good idea is an FTP-server and a permanent host adress (eg.g www.no-ip.com), advantages: the FTP-protocoll is the fastest and music/cookrecipes sharing between close friends is good if you have rare taste (some say bad taste). Anyway, when using Xolox or Morpheus or other P2P programs, you will find nearly alll you need (depending on what you are looking for). Last edited by Moak; September 21st, 2001 at 09:12 AM. |

ip address resolver I have uploaded a little program written in delphi for resolving your own ip address at any time. Please note it does NOT resolve network addresses properly. I haven't worked that one out yet but you could try a program like RazzMon to resolve the network ip shared address/es. both are placed at http://briefcase.yahoo.com/judeshares - I have tried to make it public access but if not try the password blahblah You will need the razzmon update if you wish to make the connections with razzmon for your own network. hey guru I don't know exactly what you mean. can you be more specific? 'cos if you mean you can't find the ip address of each physical unit from the server, that is expected on razzmon as the 'logical' ip address bears absolutely no relevance to the 'real' address as seen by the netpipe backbone. therefore, if you want to see which address is relevant for each machine you have to go to each machine, click on the client and the address will show there, and only there and will be unique to the others. razzmon was NOT written by me:-) i can't do stuff like that yet but i'm working on it. razzmon has it's limitations as it wasn't really intended for the purposes of finding local addresses from your server - it was just an idea of mine to let you know your own resolved network addresses - but using your legs is good for the figure:-) Peace Jude |
