Talking A fix for incompatible RPC stub

After running into the same problem with an incompatible RPC stub, I looked to this site for information and found none....except for other people with the same problem. I looked on the web and discovered it to be a problem with other software as well and lo and behold a solution that worked for me.

I replaced the Oleaut32.dll file under the windows/system folder with an older version of the same file that I happen to have in another directory (I dont know how you would find an older version otherwise). I only renamed the original as to make sure I had a backup in case it didnt work or other problems arose...so far, I was able to install limewire and no problems with anything else.

I learned this from a message board on another site...here is the message I took the info from.

{Found a message from an IE6 beta tester who had the same error name, though the code no. was 0035.
'I had that error on a software install, but got rid of it when I replaced the oleaut32.dll file with an older version.'
If you want to verify this go to:

Another recent message (11/10/2001),from a guy called Darren Wall, on a newsgroup called microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.browser seems to back this up:
'I found a different version of OLEAUT32.DLL in a CAB file called
MDAC_IE5.CAB in my Windows Updates directory. I extracted the file to my
Windows directory, restarted the machine in MS-DOS mode. Renamed the
OLEAUT32 file in my SYSTEM directory (so that if this didn't work I still
had this version to go back to) and moved the 'new' version (dated 08/03/99
11:50) in to the SYSTEM directory.

After restarting the machine and letting Windows start correctly I have
tested and all three symptoms have gone.

I still don't know what caused the file to change in the first place nor
whether changing the OLEAUT32 file will cause any other problems but for now
anyway I'm a happy bunny.}

Hope this helps.

good luck,
