It seems there are a lot of people that have a problem with the nag screen at startup (upgrade to PRO, yes, why, later). There also seem to be no posts describing how the nag screen could be removed (aside from actually upgrading). I also read that even the PRO starts to nag at you eventually, asking to buy a newer version, so you can never permanently get rid of the nagging. These CAN be removed, and I would appreciate any help. I'm using version 4.12.11. If you rename LimeWire.jar to LimeWire.zip, and open it up in winzip or another file compression utility, go to \com\limegroup\gnutella\gui, you will find the file that I think is responsible for the popup nag - UpgradeWindow.class. My problem is, that I cannot change anything within the zip/jar file. After I re-compress, limewire refuses to run. To test, I uncompressed all files, did not change anything and recompressed them back into .zip, renamed to limewire.jar - limewire refuses to run. I've even used jar.exe and created a self-manifesting limewire.jar (using switch m and no compression). The resulting .jar is slightly different in size from the original, and again, limewire refuses to run. I have no experience with Java. Can someone who does have the experience tell me how to re-compress the .class files into a working limewire.jar file? Or, to take it further, how can UpgradeWindow.class be hacked to get rid of the annoying nag screen? Also, please let me know if I'm totally on the wrong track. I will appreciate any contribution. |
