I had a look at the install script. If you do "export LAX_DEBUG=true" and run the install script again, you'll see a lot of interesting info. I noticed that many of the commands that set different variables don't work - they leave the variables empty.
The install script creates a new subdirectory in /tmp every time it runs and tries to do its stuff there. I think the permissions here are wrong and that's why the commands in the script fail. WIll look tonite if I can find the place in the install script where the subdirectory is created and give it global write permissions. As it is now, only the user has write permissions.
