Question missing essential property

Hi!
When I try to install Limewire on a PowerMac 6100 with Sonnet G3-card under MacOS 9.1 the installer aborts with an error message:
The properties file is missing an essential property: lax.main.class. Please make sure it exists in the properties file:/.

The next requester says: Unable to locate the applications ´main´ class. The class 'null' must be public and must have 'public static void null(String[])' method (LAX).

Clicking on the details button brings:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Compiled Code)
at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)
at com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMStaticMethodDispatcher.ru n(JMAWTContextImpl.java)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java)

Reinstalling MRJ didn't help. I have no experience with JAVA, is there something I have to configure?
Thanks for your help!

Try removing all files from the LimeWire installation directory, except for any files that you may have downloaded and want to keep (everything except your "Shared" directory if you have one), and then running our latest installer (2.1.3).

Hmh, I'm not sure if I understand what you mean. There is no installation directory, because limewire isn't even installed yet. I click the Install icon, the installer is extracted, then a picture with a clock appears and after a few seconds the installer aborts with the error message.

Sorry -- I think I got confused as to whick post I was answering =).

Are you definitely running the 2.1.3 installer? If so, you could try downloading and running the MRJ installer separately from Apple at:

ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Java/M....5_Install.bin

Once you have installed this, you can then run the smaller LimeWire installer (the one without the MRJ) from:

http://www9.limewire.com/download/LimeWireMacNoVM.bin

Let me know if this continues to give you errors.

I tried what you suggested, but no change. Still the same error.

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work.

I actually have a third one for you to try. It's located at:

http://www9.limewire.com/developer/L..._installer.bin

If that one also does not work, there is a way for me to get more information about what's happening. The process is as follows:

1) After launching the installer, check the Trash (sort by modified) and drag the IA_JavaInstaller_(delete)_53687/MacOS (Temp) directory to the Desktop.

2) Delete the sea_loc file.

3) Edit the install.lax file to change the "stderr" and "stdout" fields to "console.txt." So, they should now read:

lax.stderr.redirect=console.txt

and

lax.stdout.redirect=console.txt

4) Save the LW_installer.lax and rerun the installer from the Temp directory.

This should produce a file called console.txt in the directory where you ran the installer. If you attach that file in an e-mail to me at afisk@limepeer.com, I should be able to find out more information.

Default essential property missing

Adam,

I am having the same problem with my Limewire and I also have a Sonnet G3 card installed. . . Hmm

I tried following all of your directions, Installed everything several unsuccessfil times and finally tried to make the log file to email you. I got stuck at "edit install.lax" file. I cannot access this file. How might I do so?

Thanks, Zac

Default Unable to open limewire on mac 9600 running 0S 9.0

I WAS ABLE TO INSTALL LIMEWIRE ON MY 9600 MAC RUNNING 0S 9.0 BUT I GOT THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE WHEN I TRY TO LAUNCH IT:

> Unable to Launch Java Application
> The properties files is missing an essential property:
> lax.main.class. Please make sure it exists in the properties file:/
>
> And when I click OK:
> Unable to Launch Java Application
> Unable to locate the application's 'main' class. The class 'null' must be
> public and have a 'public static void (String{})' methos. (LAX)

> When I click Details:
> java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:
> at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Compiled Code)
> at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source)
> at
> com.apple.mrj.JManager.JMStaticMethodDispatcher.ru n(JMAWTContextImpl.java)
> at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java)

I FOLLOWED YOUR VARIOUS SUGGESTIONS BUT GOT THE SANE RESULT. I TRIED TO CREATE A CONSOLE.TXT FILE FOR YOUR REVIEW BUT RAN INTO THE TWO FOLLOWING PROBLEMS (TYPED IN BOLD). PLEASE ADVISE. TC

I GOT A FILE W/ A DIFFERENT NUMBER

2) Delete the sea_loc file.

3) Edit the install.lax file to change the "stderr" and "stdout" fields to "console.txt." So, they should now read:

WHAT APPLICATION CAN I USE TO OPEN THE FILE FOR EDITING? WHEN I CLICK ON IT LIMEWIRE STARTS TO INSTALL AGAIN.

lax.stderr.redirect=console.txt

and

lax.stdout.redirect=console.txt

4) Save the LW_installer.lax and rerun the installer from the Temp directory.
