Default high ressources for limewire

hi,
i have used limewire since i joined the gnutella network.
limewire is great but why is it so slow?
is it because of the GUI? then i think it would be
cool if it is possible to shut off the GUI because I want
a fast and efficient program and not a goodlooking one.
it takes about 10 seconds to load up on my 700mhz laptop and
i think thats a bit too much isnt it?

thanks for sharing this great app anyway.

Yeah,
I notice it sometimes when my Opera loads an
applett. It takes so long to initialize the java compiler....
But then I dont get it why many ppl praise Java for their
speed but say that things like ASP or VB are too slow.
OK Java is crossplatform but its much much slower than
even VB (for me).

Java application usually take quite long to load (but not that long, I mean who else remembers the times when you could get a cup of coffee while MS Word was starting...).

And once running, Java is even faster than unoptimized c++ code.

ASP and VB application don't run faster than Java, but they are using windows libs, that are loaded when starting windows, so they will start up much quicker.

Not to mention that you can't write big projects in ASP or VB.

Although benchmarks usually can't be generalized (and there are operations where c++ is twice as fast as java) this article shows, that you can come up with benchmarks where java matches the speed (and occasionally tops the speed of) c++.

http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/j...-02-jperf.html

One of javas problems is that amateurish programmers (like myself) usually code in Java (or VB) because it's so easy. And there are simple ways of making Java very slow (like packing the whole program into the GUI thread).

However there are less crashes, memory leaks and other errors of the uglier kind (since you simply can't mess around with pointers), - thats why I prefer it.
