My Windows 7 appears to have no problems playing short or long songs but is iTunes Version 12.10.11.2 Perhaps experiment around with iTunes’ compatibility mode or Run as an Administrator via iTunes Properties. There's a small chance one or both of those changes might make a difference. Possibly try Repair option from Control Panel. iTunes does not use Java. |

Very much appreciated info there LOTR, thank you. I did do the repair option from the control panel before I asked, to no avail. OK It does seem to be working in compatibility mode, it automatically switched over to Windows XP SP2. Don't know why, but it is working. The only difference I can think of between these two computers is the older one says its windows version is 7 Home, and the newer says Windows 7 professional. ??? Don't know if that makes a difference. What is your thought about me hooking up my ipod with 10K tunes to this totally empty program? |

I cannot recall the exact specific processes with iPod with how it works. I might suggest a backup of the music somewhere just in case. Then give it a try. I presume you have some form of backup archiving? I should note that I have read where people have had issues on Windows where their iPod refused to be accepted on a different machine. That information comes from personal reviews about iTunes for Windows. If that happens to you then I guess you could ask on the iTunes forum and hope someone with wisdom can help you solve the issue. Although to my understanding nowadays the iTunes forum also sleeps sometimes like here. |

Thanks my friend. I do have a backup with a Storite 100. Seems to be intact but cannot get it to transfer to other laptops hard drive. More hair pulling!!! I Lost its user manual and the company in UK will not write me back with a PDF. I have several posts on that iTunes forum from last year still unanswered. I have copied the exact same version 10.6.00 16 as on the older laptop, so I am hoping it will not act up on me. Too scared to try it yet. I have about 5,000 files of Limewire and Wireshare dating back to 2006. But the other 5,000 are the problem. They are tracks off 33's and 45's that were never ever offered in digital. I transferred each one individually. |

Definitely keep an archive backup. Keep in mind hard drives wear out eventually. Some files might become corrupt due to sectors being closed off due to eventual wearing out damage. It appears Storite do not offer pdf user manuals from their website. A bit odd. |
